VIGNOBLES BONFILS

Vignobles Bonfils - Château Capitoul - Maëlma - GRAPES VARIETIES
Syrah 56%, Grenache Noir 39%, Carignan 5%

APPELLATION
AOP La Clape
Red

SOILS
Urgonian limestone,
limestone clay and stony soils

Château Capitoul is a gem which lies between the sea and the “garrigue”. The view on the vineyards loosing themselves in the infinity of the valley before melting into the horizon between salt lakes and blue mountains is breathtaking.
The vineyard of Chateau Capitoul goes back to the 14th century, when it was exploited by the Cathedral of Narbonne, which gave its name to the Chateau.

TERROIR
Ideally located in the middle of the Languedoc’s largest natural site, viticulture is practiced and reasoned, producing wines of highest quality and reflecting the best that the “Appelation La Clape” has to offer. In 2015, the appellation La Clape was accredited “Grand Cru”, thus joining other prestigious, internationally renowned French appellations.
The grapes for this wine come from vines planted on urgonian limestone, limestone clay and stony soils.

VINIFICATION
Yields are deliberately low, around 25 hl/ha, in order to obtain maximum concentration and complexity. The grapes are harvested with great care, with double sorting, before and after destemming, 50% vinified in full vinification in barrels for 1 and a half months then aged in new barrels and one-wine barrels for 12 to 18 months.

TASTING NOTES
Magnificent dense dark red colour. The nose is powerful and at the same time elegant, complex. With superbly silky tannins, this well structured wine is a symphony of aromas encompassing black cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and very delicate smoky notes.

SOMMELIER’S ADVICE
Food and wine pairing: deer pâté, wild boar in sauce, Creole red beans, Roquefort, Brie with truffles.
Serving temperature: 16-18°C
Opening advice: decant 2 hours before serving
Aging potential: 7 years

VIGNOBLES BONFILS - Alcoholic drinks (wines)

VIGNOBLES BONFILS

Creator of wines and emotions, Vignobles Bonfils has been passing on the soul of the land for 6 generations. Their castles of character combine vineyards and luxury hotels to make you discover their exceptional terroirs during an oenological escape on the roads of the South of France.

Family and independent since 1870, committed to environmental protection, they preserve the integrity of each of their listed natural sites. Since the end of 2019, all their estates, i.e. 1600 hectares of vines, have been labelled HVE (High Environmental Value). HVE certification attests to environmental excellence as reflected by the achievement of performance thresholds (performance obligations) in four areas, in terms of : biodiversity (presence of agro-ecological infrastructures on the farm such as hedges, grass strips, groves, etc.), phytosanitary strategy, fertiliser management, irrigation management.

It is with precision and care that the winegrowers and oenologists at Vignobles Bonfils refine their approach: plot monitoring, management of adjusted needs, environmentally friendly practices, controlled yields, optimised harvest dates and times. This is how the greatest terroirs are born, blessed with centuries of care and attention.

A single goal : to produce quality wines offering the best of their terroir ! This is how the wines of Vignobles Bonfils are rewarded each year with a hundred medals and scores from the greatest international competitions.

The 17 Estates & Castles of the Vignobles Bonfils are spread over the Languedoc Roussillon, South of France, including one in the Bordeaux region. They offer more than 250 cuvees in prestigious appellations such as : Côtes du Roussillon, Corbières, La Clape, Languedoc, Minervois, Muscat de Rivesaltes, Bordeaux Supérieur, ...

"Without Man, the terroir is only hope. "Laurent Bonfils
